Welcome to the exhibition “Returning the gaze”, looking back in French, is an exhibition that revisits the essay “Manière de voir” by John Berger through the prism of artist Kainebi.
The artist's subjects, represented in the form of naked silhouettes, sometimes feminine or transcending gender boundaries. Thus, the artist breaks the traditional objectification and instead offers a celebration of the intrinsic beauty and strength of the human body. The most striking aspect of this exhibition lies in the artistic manipulation of the gaze itself. The silhouettes, meticulously composed of hundreds of eyes, become a powerful metaphor for the act of observation.
Those eyes, stripped of their traditional associations of domination, transform into a force that grants power to the subject.
The dominant tones of red which permeate the works carry a deep symbolic meaning. Evoking both the passion and vitality, these shades recall the strength that resides in
each individual. This vibrant palette embodies resilience and determination needed to take up the stories historically shaped by societal expectations.
“Renaissance du Regard” invites a bold reflection on empowerment, representation and redefinition of dynamics of observation.
